This summer trip was not really on my mind for some reason. I was aware my departure was nearing, yet I didn't kick into gear till Sunday morning. Woke up, grabbed what needed and finally locked the suitcase.
Found parking pretty fast for a weekend, which was surprising. $20 for valet? Psha. Got to raise money somehow, I suppose.
Check in went pretty fast. It was interesting to watch people's reactions as they tried to check in their baggage without Agriculture clearance. Their reactions go from confusion to pissed in seconds when they realize they have to wait in line again. Oops.
With time to kill, sat in front of the security check with my mom for a bit. She's in the final stages of booking her flight up to San Francisco next week to visit David before he leaves for his Asia backpacking adventure. It's awesome she's going as it will hopefully appease some of her mom worries. Also witnessed some pretty sad goodbyes in this area. Everyone has their story.
No matter how many times I fly, my stomach does a little dance before boarding. As my previous trips started with an airplane malfunction, I sort of expected some kind of delay. Thank you Hawaiian Air for proving me wrong. Boarded, settled into my seat, and was presented a menu for lunch. No lie, throughout the flight I think everyone in my section had to drop a few pounds in the toilet after whatever they ate. Comfort in the masses, right? Ginger is a gurgling stomach best friend, just saying.
As soon as I got off the plane in Phoenix, my face was slapped with 100 degree heat (at midnight!). Unf. Went down to baggage claim, grabbed my bag and watched the luggage carousel break shortly thereafter. It was like everyone said "sht" all at once, no joke. I got mine, heyyyyy.
Waited for a bit for my ride and became acquainted with a couple who had returned from their honeymoon in Hawaii. The love that radiated between the two was ridiculously strong, it was nice to be witness to such a phenom.
Cece & Reuben arrived and we started our trek to Tuscon. There was a lightening storm in the horizon and I saw my first actual lightening bolt. I don't care how dorky that read, it was f'n awesome. I was fascinated for the better part of the ride, just watching the flashes. Made it to Tuscon in under a couple of hours and my butt f'n hurt, but I was grateful for the company.
Excited to explore the unknown. There's going to be a lot of that on this trip.
